WHY PRAY:
1 Thess 5:16 Rejoice always, (Not just when ship comes in, even when in a trial. The joy of the Lord is your strength. Paul and Silas in jail) 17 pray without ceasing (lifestyle. Checking in with Him on everything), 18 in everything give thanks (not for the trial but for the victory for His goodness and mercy); for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. NKJV
“The” prayer warrior example:
Jesus gave Himself to prayer
In the Gospels there are 17 references to Jesus at prayer.
• divided into groupings:
(1) Prayers at critical moments in his life:
(a) while he prayed after baptism Luke 3:21 When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. 22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, "You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased."
(b) the select of the apostles (Luke 6:12-13);
Luke 6:12 Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. 13 And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles: 14 Simon, whom He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; 15 Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the Zealot; 16 Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot who also became a traitor. NKJV
(c) the confession of his being the Messiah (Luke 9:18);
(d) his Transfiguration. His face was altered (Luke 9:29); MAJOR TEST
Luke 9:29 As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening. 30 And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of His decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
(e) before the cross in Gethsemane (Luke 22:39-40);
Luke 22:39-46 Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, (do you have a custom of praying?) and His disciples also followed Him. 40 When He came to the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation." (if you have failed in an area over and over… pray, that the Lord for strength to resist the temptation. God will not remove the temptation. He will give you a way out. To pull a Joseph) 41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, (other side of sanctuary) and He knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, "Fathe
