1) Is The COVID Crisis Over? The US has a declining rate of infection on COVID, but still has the greatest deaths of any nation in the world (about 750,000) and a daily death rate about 1400. The current rate is double that of the UK , about 75% higher than Germany. We are reopening theme parks, airlines are full of passengers, people are not wearing masks. What is going on? Are we being foolish?
2) The G-20 Summit: What was accomplished? The summit pushed for a common agreement on 15% minimum corporate tax rate, and discussed the climate issues coming up in the Scotland Climate Summit. One proposal was for the richest countries in the world, who make up G-20 membership, to contribute $100 billion to poorer countries to help them shift to cleaner energy production. What do you think of that idea?
3) China and Russia Missing?: their leaders both skipped the G-20 Summit in Rome and Global Climate Summit in Scotland. This is at same time they have been pushing to take the lead on multilateral initiatives to replace the USA as 'global leader'. Were they just afraid of getting COVID,, or hiding from their climate responsibility? What is going on?
4) Jimmy Lai and other Hong Kong (HK) protesters under trial: Jimmy Lai, the publisher of Apple Newspaper in HK, and noted opponent of Chinese takeover of HK, is standing trial for his 'crimes' of organizing and participating in a candle-lite vigil commemorating the bloody 1989 crackdown on protesters in Beijing’s Tienanmen Square.
