We all know that our emotions guide our actions. I'm sure I could ask you to reflect over a moment in the past week where an emotion has led you to act a certain way, or engage in a certain behaviour and you could think of many examples.
Although this mechanism is normal and often very health (think: you're tired so you have an early night or you're feeling inspired so you write that article) - it can sometimes be through this exact mechanism that we fall into self-sabotage.
What's tricky about self-sabotage, is that it pulls us into a downwards spiral that goes so much further than the action itself. Sure maybe self-sabotage led us to stay up late scrolling... again. But it's not just the scrolling that's the issue. It's the fact that our self-esteem is decreased, our confidence is decrease and our self-trust is even decreased...
So how can we turn it around?
Instead of letting our emotions guide our actions, I suggest we take an active stance towards deciding what emotion will support us and then plan our actions accordingly.
If you have a busy day ahead, perhaps you want to channel focus. Decide now, what action will support me to channel focus? Schedule that for the next day.
If you have a stressful day ahead, perhaps you want to channel calm. Decide now, what action will support me to channel calm? Schedule that for the next day.
I challenge you to set yourself an emotional goal every evening this week for the next day and I'll do the same. I'll be sharing my own journey on Instagram and I would love for you to do the same!
