The human mind generates thoughts. Sometimes these thoughts are pleasant and useful and other times they are unpleasant and destructive.  They often just seem to come on their own without your invitation. However, in meditation, you can be mindful and watch your thoughts.  Then you can decide which thoughts you cherish and which thoughts you would like to release.  To be free from your thought or uninvolved you need to take this a step further.  You need to know yourself as the knower of your thoughts. When you shift your attention to the Knower you begin to become aware that the Pure Knowingness is free from all thought and not the human being.  Then you are no longer limited to just a human being you are the Pure Knowingness that is forever free.
