Welcome to Episode 26! We more than half way through the first season of That Social Work Lady!
In this episode we're talking more about ADHD. Today I want to provide you with a guide to supporting someone with ADHD. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a real medical diagnosis. ADHD indicates that an individual is near-atypical. The short hand of that is 'when you have ADHD your brain works different from someone who does not have ADHD.'
Oversimplifying ADHD into categories of 'that's a bad kid' or 'she's just flighty' not only does a disservice to the individual managing the diagnosis but it also minimizes that individual's place in community. ADHD is complicated. The diagnosis is complicated and each person with an ADHD diagnosis is different and unique and deserving of their individuality.
You can have an ADHD diagnosis and be a Mensa card carrying genius. You can also have an ADHD diagnosis and have a learning disability. MORE THAN ONE THING CAN BE TRUE. To lean more give a listen to today's episode. And check out these resources:
