THG interviews guest Connie Johnson. Connie is an author, healer, storyteller, and entrepreneur. An Orangeburg-native, she received her Bachelor's of Art and Child and Family Studies in 2009 from Columbia College, followed by her Master's of Arts in Social Justice and community development from Loyola University in Chicago.
After being diagnosed with HIV in 2002 as well as an offspring of someone suffering from it, she has since then become an advocate by honoring her mother's legacy. Her work is specifically geared towards women living with HIV/AIDS that are mothers or grandmothers doing the best to maintain their health and care for the needs of those that they are responsible for. Her 2015 book, Beyond Measure, depicts the lives of eight Kenyan women living with the HIV/AIDS.
