Description

On an early June evening in 1977, at a small high school in a small town named Marcellus, in Upstate, New York a sports banquette was being held in the cafeteria.  The menu consisted of spaghetti  with canned sauce, with white bread, and pint containers of chocolate and white milk, dessert a small square of some type of cake.  The speaker in the cafeteria that evening was the new head coach of Syracuse University basketball, Jim Boeheim.  Before he was an icon, before he was a Hall of Fame coach, he spoke at this small school, in a small town, not unlike the one he came from 40 miles west down the Thruway.  I was a senior that night when he started, and now a senior citizen when he stopped.  Thank you coach, what a ride! for us both.
