It’simportant to understand the laws to make sure you are in compliance in order to avoid any penaltiesthat could be assessed for non-compliance.The Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA) establishes rules regarding minimum wage, overtime pay,recordkeeping and youth employment for those involved in the private sector and federal, state, andlocal governments. We’ll discuss those who are exempt from the FSLA and those who fall under theregulations.Descriptions on meanings of the terms within the law will be explained as well as understanding thedifferences between an employee and an independent contractor. I’ll explain the three factors used tojudge if the worker is an employee, and the categories within each factor to review. Failing to followguidelines can result in fines/penalties, so learn the rules so you can be in compliance.
