Mackenzie Severns' deep connection with animals began at a young age, when at age 9 she decided to become vegetarian as she wanted to protect animals. After watching a video about the dairy industry at age 15, she transitioned to veganism overnight and began cooking her own meals.
Mackenzie crossed paths with the Animal Justice Party and took on the role of Regional Coordinator for the Townsville area. Following a quick introduction to the world of politics, she then ran as the first AJP candidate for Townsville in the Federal election in 2019 as well as the Local Government election in early 2020.
Mackenzie volunteers at a local animal sanctuary Maridan's Menagerie and loves seeing the 80 animal residents live out their best life. She is also a brand ambassador for vegan apparel company Vegan Scout
