Description

In today’s MEGAphone episode… we will again be shouting out my favorite continuous glucose monitor companies Levels. They are constantly sending out information, articles, blogs, studies… tons of content on how to improve your health… based on the huge amounts of data that they are collecting from people like me who are wearing their glucose monitors and reporting on their app what they are eating, seeing what that food is doing to their blood sugar specifically, logging what type of exercising and stresses are they encountering and what affects those stressors are having on their blood sugar. They are even getting data on how things like sleep or lack of sleep is affecting peoples health through these metabolic pathways. And this is what we are going to be talking about today.

This article that was sent out, written by author Jennifer Cook was incredibly informative and I’d like to share it with you.

Every single day… every day… I’m having a conversation with someone on how they get terrible sleep… and in the same breath… they are telling me about how they can’t achieve their fat loss goals, or they can’t figure out why they are always so sore, or they are telling me about how their doctors have them on this and that medication and they so desperately want to get off of them. We, as a culture, just haven’t pieced together the true importance on something we spend (or should spend) about a third of our life doing. We take pride in working ourselves into the ground, “sleeping when we are dead”, pulling all nighters to complete a task, substituting sleep for something else that we feel is more important… things that range all the way from family, to social events with friends, to binge watching 16 hours straight of squid games. We ALL do it. In different ways.

So after listening to this episode today, it is my hope that even if we don’t completely remove our Netflix binges or our late night get togethers, or even our dedicated, driven overtime projects… even if we don’t change those things… we will still be able understand the impacts of what lack of sleep and not investing in trying to get better quality sleep is doing to our health. Specifically our metabolic health.
