Bob Seggerson, a member of the Ohio High School Hall of Fame as the coach of Lima Central Catholic High School Thunderbirds, won 518 games at LCC over the span of his 32 year career. He took teams to the final 4 six times, losing five of those games by a total of 8 points. Finally, on his 518th win, in story-book fashion, he brought home the Ohio State Basketball Championship trophy.
In part 1 of this 4-part series, Bob first talks about where he got his competitive edge as a youngster growing up in Lima, Ohio. He shares his journey to eventually receiving a full scholarship to St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana, where St. Joe's belonged to one of the best NCAA Division 2 conferences in the country. His recruiting stories will have you laughing at how some of the coaches tried to impress Bob's parents. He finishes up the first segment by talking about the lessons he learned from his coach at St. Joe's as well as other coaches who had an impact on his coaching philosophy.
