The presence of the “Believe” sign on my shelf behind my head began to draw some comparisons with Ted Lasso
His statement that: “For me, success is not about the wins and losses. It’s about helping these young fellas be the best versions of themselves on and off the field”, has been part of my coaching philosophy for over 15 years.
But beyond that the comparisons are not altogether clear. I am a bit folksy but am not American, I can be seen as unsophisticated but I am not necessarily smarter than I look but I do love to coach and I do care about people although I do prefer to win.
I guess the parallel is that the story is about someone coming into a situation from outside and that I do get the importance of belief.
