There’s a difference between hunger and food insecurity. Hunger is a feeling. Food insecurity is a systemic problem. Dion Dawson has experienced both sides of this issue and is doing his part to change the narrative. Listen as he shares his thoughts on the idea that there is not enough to go around.
Coming out of high school Dion wanted nothing more than to know where his next meal was coming from. He was smart and motivated, but his aspirations paled in the face of simply having security. That’s the reason he chose to go into the military.
After leaving the military, he had a long road of figuring out what he wanted out of life and why he was placed on this Earth. It took a youth in his neighborhood asking about his plans for Juneteenth for him to realize why he was here.
It never occurred to him before that moment that he was a leader in his community. Once that trait was brought to light he couldn’t put it to bed.
