Welcome back to a new episode of “This One Thing” where each week we are challenged to look at a truth from God's word and choose to apply it to our lives. This week Kerri Kenyon Dern and Melina Puente share a fresh perspective on one of Jesus’ most challenging statements to his followers. Mark 8:34 records His words, “Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.”
Following Jesus as a true disciple starts with a supernatural exchange; handing over our own will so that we are free to follow Christ and obey His plan for our lives. It is a life marked by surrendering ourselves to Him, identifying with Him in suffering, and following His words. These are clear but challenging truths that cut to the core of our own self-will, plans, and understanding. Jesus invites us to be his disciples, he doesn’t demand. We get to choose. Kerri and Melina share what a worthwhile life of surrender to Jesus looks like, and encourage each of us to trust God's will above our own. Give up your way, take up your cross and follow Him, He is worth it!
