"This One Thing" is excited to welcome you back this fall as we resume our commitment to studying together and applying God's word to our daily lives. Kerri Kenyon Dern and Crystal Wright start off the new series in the gospels, looking at the life of Jesus and His response to the fears and suffering of those around Him. In Mark chapter 4, the disciples find themselves afraid for their lives as they are caught in a storm they are unable to handle. Hearing their desperate cries, Jesus silences the storm and turns His attention to His fearful followers. "Then He asked them, 'Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?'" (Mark 4:40).

Jesus' decision to enter into this storm with His disciples was not an accident, but instead a brilliant opportunity to help them see that their fear was rooted in not yet understanding who He really was and how much He loved them.  So, why are you so afraid? Just like with His disciples, God continues to intentionally orchestrate the circumstances and storms of your life to cause you to come face to face with your need to really know and experience Him. The storms you are facing are of immeasurable worth because they allow all fears and false beliefs to be revealed, so that God can remove them and replace them with a deeper understanding of His great love and power. Knowing this, you can choose faith over fear in the midst of the storms that take you to the end of yourself, allowing you to experience mercy, grace, power, and love from the only Savior powerful enough to rescue you!
