Change in menstrual cycle is usually one of the 1st signs of perimenopause. There are 8 changes that can occur with periods during perimenopause. It is important to keep track of periods and consider keeping a journal to document any other changes that occur around your cycles. Please mention any changes to your gynecologist to ensure that these changes are due to hormonal changes as opposed to things like uterine fibroids.
In this episode, I discuss 8 changes that can occur with periods:
-regular cycles that are heavy
-regular cycles that are light
-less frequent periods or irregular, greater than 35 days apart
-more frequent or irregular, less than 21 days apart
-bleeding in between periods
-irregular cycles that are heavy
-skipping months at a time or amenorrhea(can still get pregnant during perimenopause so remember to consider pregnancy as a cause if you are not using birth control)
-painful periods
