In this episode I chat with my friend and creative spirit Ashley Ballai about the beautiful and painful journey to creating the children's book 'Little Miss Mismatched'.
This episode is a creative permission slip for all of us as Ashley shares her story that started with watercolour painting when she was a little girl, to exploring her expression as a woman today.
Over the years Ashley has used her creativity, (through painting, drawing, literature, reading and poetry,) to express her feelings.
Ashley also shares her struggles with ADD (attention-deficit disorder). She went through a dark period in her life and we discuss her experience of medication, PTSD, co-dependancy and social-anxiety.
We talk about the fears and anxieties about being creative and putting herself out there because of judgement, fear of failure and not feeling good enough.
To getting to the place where she can express her creativity and feel confident in that.
We talk about the process of creating the book called Little Miss Mismatched. Which is underpinned by the themes of kindness, radical self-expression, inclusion, diversity and self esteem.
Ashley quotes the poet Rumi in our chat 'Reach higher. Reach for your spirit.' And this is exactly what she has done.
