As we think about physical fitness, we think of things like exercise, weight lifting, eating right, and so on. As we actually commit to those things, we see a change in our lives. Physical appearance is primarily affected (weight loss) but also our mental and emotional states (a positive image of ourselves, more energy, and so on).
What if we think of our spiritual lives in a similar manner? If we "train" ourselves spiritually-speaking, what would some of the benefits be? We can see some of the primary things are avoidance of sin/temptation, an ability to better discern God's will, and the means to weather the storms of life. Today's episode takes us through these benefits and reminds us that spiritual fitness is just as important as physical fitness...all the more so!
For the training of the body has a limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8
