It is a part of our nature to believe that we are the center of our world.  It is an integral part of the primitive wiring in our psyche that strives to keep the individual alive for as long as possible.  After all, the world did not exist for that individual until they became conscious. And if one of our ancestors was eaten by a bear, the world did end for that person.  But are we as powerful and influential as our egos would lead us to believe?
