Public Schools: Education or Indoctrination?

What is the purpose of education in our country?  
I dive into the history of the public schools here in America, and what they were 
originally created to do. Hint: it was never the main goal to come along side the parents 
and teach the children of our nation about reading, writing, and arithmetic. 
The founders of our nation thought it was absurd that government would educate children.
