On December 23, 1996, French filmmaker Sophie Toscan Du Plantier’s body was found in the roadway leading to her vacation home in West Cork, Ireland. No forensic evidence was found inside Sophie’s home, or near the crime scene, that could be linked to the killer. A journalist named Ian Bailey was arrested twice on suspicion of Sophie’s murder; yet he was never tried and convicted in an Irish Court. In 2009, Bailey was convicted of Sophie’s murder in absentia in a French Court. However, a High Irish Court has ruled that Bailey cannot be extradited to serve his 25 year sentence. Sophie’s family continues to seek justice. Join us as we delve into the last days of the enigmatic French filmmaker, and the complex twists and turns in the case that have prevented the family from receiving closure.
