On the surface Jim Jones, the charismatic leader of The People’s Temple, appeared to be a committed social justice activist.  His dynamic preaching style and his message of racial equality appealed to many people who saw becoming a member of his congregation as the way to a better life. In this episode we discuss Jim’s early life and career, the formation of The People’s Temple, and the events that led to the devastating loss of over 900 lives at the colony of Jonestown, in Guyana on November 18, 1978.
