March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men and women in the United States. Experts recommend getting screened starting at age 45 because this common cancer is occurring in younger adults more often.
Host Sharon Martin sits down with Beth Burton, a teacher at Pleasant Valley High School in Chico, who was recently diagnosed with the disease, and her wife, Shannon. Beth and Shannon share how treatment is going. Wissam Halabi, M.D., a colorectal surgeon, joins the discussion to provide insight on the symptoms, treatment and risks of the disease.
