“For me, ‘better’ is more fulfilled, more passion- and purpose-driven.”
- Shinah
This week’s episode is for anyone who dreams about pursuing something creative… but are held back by one persistent thought.
“But what would my parents think??”
Believe me, I get it. When I was working as a corporate lawyer, I was miserable. I hated going to work. I thought about quitting for a long time. But one of the biggest obstacles holding me back from leaving my position was worrying about my parents’ reaction.
My parents worked so hard to move to the United States so that my sister and I could get amazing educations and find stable, professional jobs. Me giving it all up to become a professional calligrapher was NOT in their game plan, trust me.
I felt like I would be a huge disappointment if I threw away my law career. So I stayed longer than I wanted to. Even though I hated it.
Maybe you’re in the same position. I’m here to tell you — you don’t have to be. This episode is all about learning how to reframe these feelings, uncovering the psychological and sociological reasons behind motivation, and figuring out how to let go of other people’s expectations and love what lights you up!
