A CRNA’s work is hard, and as a CRNA only you can see where equipment needs to be upgraded or reinvented to improve the quality of care. With so many different products out there to assist you in your job, you may be asking why you are still using 5 separate pieces when really if combined they would be more effective. If only someone could come along and create a better product.
Heath Paulsen had that exact same thought about airways. He couldn’t figure out why, when there is already an airway device in use, you would have to introduce another suction device into an airway with the potential to cause more harm than good. He decided to take action and created a device that was safer for the patient and easier for the CRNA to use.
Join Heath and me as he delves into his experience of invention, mission work, and pursuing his goal.
Health Paulsen has been a CRNA for 13 years, and a Chief CRNA in Iowa and in the Army Reserve. He has deployed with FST to Afghanistan and Germany and has been on multiple mission trips. Heath developed the Paulsen Airway, the only self-suctioning airway on the market. He’s using funds from the Paulsen Airway to allow mission surgery teams to have the same capabilities as military surgical teams.
