For a long time now grains have been getting a bad rap. I’m sure that you may have heard at one point or another that they are inflammatory for the gut and lead to poor gut health - hence diets like paleo and keto cutting them out almost entirely.

But there is actually no data to support that WHOLE grains and complex carbohydrates in general, are inflammatory. In fact, studies continue to show over and over that complex carbs you find in whole fruits, veggies, legumes, and whole grains are actually ANTI-inflammatory.

So why have we all experienced digestive issues, or what feels like some kind of inflammation, from eating grains?
