Advent Week One: Hope
Listen to Cn Tim Clayton's sermon Advent 1: Hold Onto Hope.
Join us as Tim leads us into an insightful look at Jesus' words in the gospel of Mark 13, reminding us to keep watch and to be ready for his return.
How do we get excited about the hope of God coming to his people, especially in the face of so much adversity?
What do we do when we hit scriptures that are difficult? We try to approach them with humility and openness in our hearts. We try to look at it through 3 essential lenses: what is the context leading up to the difficult passage both before and after; we try to understand the 'genre' of the text; and how it fits in with scripture overall and what we know to be true about God as we know Him.
Jesus tells us He is coming back, and that is the single best reason to believe. Did he trick anyone? Did he lie? Was he not honest with his followers? We hold onto this hope because he promised he would. We don't know how but we know who.
Rejoice, anticipate, expect, hope. We desire for God to grow in us a hope so great that we could be freed by it, that we might live into your image of self-giving love.
Join us Sunday Mornings at 10 am. and Christmas Eve at 4 pm
