Join us for Mother Wendy Dixon's sermon:
Beware the Traps - Connecting with God.
Does there have to be a gap between us and God?
We've all felt it. Maybe during times of confusion or grief, maybe during times of loneliness or anguish.
What can help us to be close to God especially in times of trouble.
What are the traps? Wendy suggests that two core traps are "Energy" and "Time". Longing and wanting to be closer to God is key.
"The soul must long for God in order to be set aflame by God's love..."
But what can we do to fuel those flames when sometimes we just don't have those desires? What are the obstacles, and behaviors that can entrap us? What practices and spiritual formations can help us to close the gap?
Wendy guides us towards a closer intimacy with Jesus and a deeper look at the Psalmists prayer in Psalm 130,
1 Out of the deep have I called unto you, O Lord;
Lord, hear my voice.
2 O let your ears consider well
the voice of my supplications.
3 If you, Lord, were to mark what is done amiss,
O Lord, who could abide it?
4 For there is mercy with you;
therefore you shall be feared.
5 I wait for the Lord; my soul waits for him;
in his word is my trust.
6 My soul waits for the Lord,
more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.
7 O Israel, trust in the Lord, for with the Lord there is mercy,
and with him is plenteous redemption;
8 And he shall redeem Israel
from all their sins.
