Join us for Mother Jen Keifer's sermon: Creation Tide 4: Gardening Together With God

We continue this season of Creation Tide with another insightful sermon from Jen. From our scripture in Revelation Chapter 21:
(from the First Nations Version (of the NT), An Indigenous Translation of the New Testament.)

'I heard a voice coming from the seat of honor. “Behold!” the voice said. “the Great Spirit has pitched his sacred tent among human beings. They will be his people, and Creator himself will make his home among them and will be their Great Spirit. He will perform a wiping of tears ceremony, for death will be no more. There will be no sorrow, or weeping, or pain, because these former things have faded away.”

Then the one on the seat of honor spoke again. “Behold!” he said, “I am making all things fresh and new.” Then he added, “Write these words down, for they are true and trustworthy.” '

Creation Tide 4:
As we continue the story of growing together in the Garden of God's Goodness, how can we learn to garden together with God?

Mother Jen invites us into a fresh vision of God's love for His Creation.
The Book of Genesis tells us in the Hebrew that "God BEGAN creating" and that God's creative action continues. We wouldn't have life if God didn't stay PRESENT with us continuing to create life. Sustaining both the massive stars, suns and planets to the tiniest microbes, cells, atoms and those things invisible to the human eye. He is present. It's not a one time act, but an ongoing presence. The preservation of old things is just as much a creative act as is speaking something new out of nothing.

Gardening is not easy work. It's not easily controlled and influenced by external factors like soil, sunlight, and rain. But we can nurture the context and trust God to continue His good work of creation in our lives, in the lives of our family, friends, and neighbors, and in the nature around us.

We pray that you would invite Jesus to work the soil of your inner self.

History of Creation Tide: The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew (Eastern Orthodox) proposed in 1989 that September 1st (the first day of the Orthodox Church year) should be observed as a day “of protection of the natural environment”.
