Easter Sunday:
Because of Love, Death Had No Right to Hold Him
Why does Jesus, a man from Galilee over 2000 years ago, deserve such adoration even in times of great loss and sorrow? Why does this adoration work? Why does it bring healing and peace to those worshipers? Why does he deserve this adoration?
Because of his wounds.
Jesus walked in solidarity with the pain of the world, in solidarity with the pain caused by empire. In Jesus, God participated in the pain of the world. In the pain of each one of us.
In Jesus, God said, "let the last be first."
Jesus is alive because of love, because he gave himself so completely and unconditionally out of love, that death had no right to hold him.
