Description

Join us as we continue our new series on Giving Thanks - Eucharist;
with Mother Wendy Dixon's sermon Giving Thanks- Eucharist part 2: Wine

The word “Eucharist” is a transliteration of the Greek word eucharistia, which is itself a translation of the Hebrew word berekah. All three words have the meaning of thanksgiving, or praise for the wonderful works of God. For the Eastern Orthodox, Eucharist is "living in thanksgiving".

Why bread and wine? These are core foods that actually speak of more than themselves.

Join us as Wendy shares a fascinating sermon touching on the history of wine in the scriptures; how wheat and grapes are transformed into bread and wine that nourish, feed, and strengthen us; how God is continually transforming our own lives; and why it was so important for Jesus to share with the people in John's gospel, “anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me."
