Lent Week 4
Join us for Mother Jen Keifer's sermon:
Connecting in a Fragmented Culture
This Lent Season we are talking about healing the flaws, schisms and tears within us.
Week 1- How do we heal our inner flaws and become a more whole person, as God intended us to be.
Week 2 - How prayer helps us to heal.
Week 3 - Can we always be the same person? Am I consistent in who God has made me to be? Or do I act differently, depending on the situation?
Week 4- How do we become whole hearted, integrated beings in a culture that's pointed towards fragmentation, division, and loneliness?
Connection
How do we connect when our entire culture is filled with connecting with things rather than with God, our neighbor, and God's creation?
How do we allow the spiritual disciplines of Lent, prayer, fasting, alms-giving; to lead us into this wholeness, rather than just having more things "to do" in a culture already filled with "to-do lists"?
From our gospel reading in Matthew 6:
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
We pray that you would know the goodness of God, revealed to us in Christ Jesus.
