Join us for Sophie Clayton-Gross' sermon, The Minor Prophets 8: Malachi - Does God Really Love Us?
The Books of the Minor Prophets are simply shorter books.
But the beauty of the Minor Prophet books is that because they are shorter, they tend to get right to the point and "name" the issues at hand.
"And so you say..." The prophet Malachi uses this term again and again to help communicate with the people of Israel. The book is a reminder that our love and commitment to God and to loving our neighbors should be primarily "transactional". At the time of it's writing, the Israelites have been waiting for a long time, suffering, and having real doubts about God and God's love for Israel. Sometimes in the reality of our world we can be buried in despair. In the Book of Malachi we learn that God has not turned away from us, nor forgotten us no matter how troubling or lonely life can get.
Sophie invites us to remember the invitation to "relationship" and remember that God is love, that we were created by Love and for Love and relationship with one another and with the Creator of All.
