The Doctor has a crisis when his programming goes into a cyclical loop of ethics and the crew has to erase his memory to keep him from decompiling...that is until he begins to pick up on the clues that they left behind. Eventually he has to deal with it to get past it, and takes a big step closer towards sentience.
