Basil
Ocimum basilicum
Appearance: Basil has bright green egg-shaped leaves that grow in pairs along its stem. Its flowers are white or purple and grow on a spike.
Basil is an herb native to Israel; it may have been found in gardens in Biblical times. Its leaves are used to flavor many types of food. There are many varieties of basil. Perhaps basil is the herb referred to as the tender herb that is being blessed with tender rain and dew.
[The Lord’s] My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass.
Deuteronomy 32:2 KJV
