Common name: Judas Tree
Appearance: The redbud tree is a small tree or large shrub. It has round or heart-shaped leaves and delicate pink flowers. Its seeds grow in pods. The redbud is also called the Judas tree. Legend says this was the tree that the disciple Judas hanged himself on after betraying Jesus. The tree’s flowers blushed bright pink in shame and its wood grew too soft and crooked to be used for lumber after being used for such a purpose.
Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders… And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
