The Fourth Trimester refers to the twelve-week postpartum period following birth. In 2018, ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) issued new recommendations for mother and infant postpartum care, recognizing the need to have follow-up care sooner and that care for a postpartum mother be ongoing rather than just a single visit. The postpartum plan should be a part of the conversation during pregnancy, so new mothers have the support they need in place. Dr. Cheryl Iglesia, Dr. Christine Vaccaro, and Dr. Kathleen Novicki discuss the Fourth Trimester.
