WINESKIN : GIVING
.
If we are truly serious about following the way of our Lord, if we are truly serious about curating a Christ-Centred community where Christ is Lord of all; and if we are serious about participating in the bringing of God’s future into our present then we need to talk about why we give and why we steward and share our possessions – the time, talent and the treasure – that the Lord has graced us with.
.
The use of money and possessions is addressed and utilised – in the gospels – directly and for illustrative and instructional purposes by Jesus, so much so that the only thing He speaks about more is the kingdom of God…
.
And in Acts 2 we catch a glimpse of God’s economic future breaking in to the early church as they practiced and participated in the economy of God in ways that didn’t separate or compartmentalise their religious or spiritual life from the rest of their real, everyday – waking and working life.

In fact it’s seems so clear that their spiritual life informed and formed their whole life – from the way they engaged in community, the way they worked, the way they managed their relationships and the way they stewarded, shared and gave of their possessions to those who were in need.
.
This kind of giving and sharing only happens because of the Spirit.
.
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭42‬-‭47‬ ‭NIV‬‬“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
