This season the Amadeus Choir is celebrating our 50h anniversary season. We do a lot of work with Canadian composers and we have premiered dozens of commissions. Recently we have been collaborating with some of the best Indigenous composers writing today. Indigenous people have stewarded this land since time immemorial and we are so grateful to make music here. This season on Songwalks, you’ll join some of these amazing creators on a short musical stroll. They’ll take you on a tour of some of their music and tell you a bit about what inspires them.
In episode one, you’ll meet Andrew Balfour. He now splits his time between Toronto and Winnipeg where he composes and leads choirs. In his music, Andrew brings together his Indigenous heritage and a love of renaissance polyphony. It’s a potent combination.
