Description

This season we are celebrating our 50h anniversary season. We do a lot of work with Canadian composers and we have premiered dozens of commissions. Recently we have been collaborating with some of the best Indigenous composers writing today. Indigenous people have stewarded this land since time immemorial and we are so grateful to make music here. This season on Songwalks, you’ll join some of these amazing creators on a short musical stroll. They’ll take you on a tour of some of their music and tell you a bit about what inspires them.

In episode two, you’ll meet Deantha Edmunds. She is Canada’s first Inuk professional classical singer. She was recently appointed a member of the Order of Canada for her work as a performer, writer, composer, and mentor. Deantha joined the Amadeus Choir for the creation of beautiful song that braids her own Inuk heritage with the music of Hildegard von Bingen, a mystic and visionary from the twelfth century. As you’ll hear, it’s a powerful combination.
