On this podcast, We want to introduce a Black Owned Small Business here in Evanston, IL. Da Jerk Pit is a Caribbean American Restaurant. Based here in Evanston. Founded in 2018, Da Jerk Pit has brought the culture of Jamaican Cuisine to many communities in the Cook County Area! Today, we will be shedding light on this small business. Before we start, we want to wish you a “ Happy Juneteenth and Caribbean Heritage Month!” from Mills Realty.
For those of you who don't know, Juneteenth is now a national holiday celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people. So in honor of the holiday, we celebrate black business in our communities and want to share how much they’ve impacted their communities.
In addition, We want to highlight that it is Caribbean Heritage Month! The Caribbean people have brought a wealth of knowledge, culture and tons of diversity globally. Chicago was founded by Haiti’s very own Jean Baptise Point du Sable. For all that Caribbean do for communities around the world, it’s only best that we acknowledge their achievements for now and future generations.
