Description

In this episode of the Self Made Podcast, it is a pleasure to welcome James Macintosh to the show.

What do you define as the key characteristics of being a man? Is it being a provider, a role model, being a good father? In this episode we break down our views and what it is like being a man in 2021.

In my opinion, being a man is getting harder in this day and age and this is commonly shown by increases in mental health issues amongst men and there are still so many not reaching out for help when needed.  We want to change that and bring back the old school traits that make a successful man but update it to the modern era.

James has lived a crazy life in his 28 years from being a paramedic in the violent areas of South Africa to injuries that left him in crippling pain and contemplating ending it all! The fact the man is still here let alone telling his amazing story is in itself impressive but James is doing more than that and helping people get out of pain and learn confidence through weight training.

In this episode, we talk about the things he has learned from the biggest experiences in his life as well as discuss what it is like to be a man in the modern era. We cover a lot here from the racial segregation in South Africa, to the me-too movement all the way to discussing mortality and how to appreciate life every day.

Genuinely one of my favourite episodes to record and always a pleasure catching up with James. The man lives to his values with true integrity and has learned to be strong in vulnerability which is a trait we should all strive for.
