MCALLEN, Texas - The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas-RGV is hosting the latest in its Women in Politics series on Jan. 18.
The forum takes place at the Double Tree in McAllen, starting at 5 p.m, and features women candidates on the ballot in the March 2022 primaries. Board member Cynthia Sakulenzki will be the moderator.
The statewide HWNT was formed in 1986. The RGV chapter was revived in 2012.
Della Fay Perez Rodriguez, vice chair of development for HWNT-RGV, said the organization as a whole seeks to “advance the educational, cultural, social, legal and economic well-being of all women though a bigger, broader awareness of their role in society, business, and family.”
Perez Rodriguez said the Women in Politics series is one of the chapter’s signature events. It was started four years ago.
“We just saw that there was a lot more women coming out and running for office. Obviously, since we are a women’s organization, we want to promote women as much as possible. We wanted to have a forum strictly for women female candidates that would give them a platform to be able to voice who they are and what they are all about,” Perez Rodriguez told the Rio Grande Guardian International News Service.
“We wanted to do it in a way that was nice and not something they see on the campaign trail everyday.”
Perez Rodriguez said women candidates from both sides of the political aisle have been invited.
“We want this forum to be a positive one for all of the 2022 female candidates and the intent of the forum is to allow all of the women to shine in the most positive light. We want the best for each woman that is on the stage at our event.”
