MCALLEN, Texas - The Index Reynosa Foundation presented checks to various charities at an event at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in McAllen this week.

The money, totaling over $100,000, was raised at a charity golf tournament the group held at Tierra Del Sol Golf Club in Pharr in the fall.

The groups the foundation helped were Miradas de Esperanza, Children’s Haven International, Rio Bravo Ministries, Food Bank Reynosa, Teleton, and the foundation itself. The foundation gives some money to itself so that if there is an emergency during the year, such a big flood, the foundation can purchase supplies for community affected.

“We had a great year. We ran two golf tournaments this year, one in the summer, one in the fall. Today, we're here to donate the distribution from the fall event. It's going to be just over six figures, about $100,000, that we are going to be giving back to the community,” said Mike Myers, a director with the Index Reynosa Foundation.

Myers said he was pleased the checks were being distributed right before Christmas.

The Index Reynosa Foundation is an offshoot of Index Reynosa, a trade association for the maquiladora industry.

Myers pointed out that this was the first year the foundation held two golf tournaments. The first, held in the summer in Reynosa, raised around $60,000. By having two events the foundation brought in a record amount of money for the local charities.

“God keeps blessing us. This (the $100,00) is the highest amount we've ever been able to donate. And, remember, we had another event earlier this year. I mean, we just blew it out of the sky.”

Myers said organizing two golf tournaments is a lot of hard work. But, when the foundation sees the results, and is able to make a good donation to a worthy cause, it makes all that hard work worthwhile.

“We have a bunch of people, great vendors and sponsors that made it all possible, all the golfers who donated, all the companies that are associated with us gave us money.”
