35 years ago, this year Whitney Houston released “So Emotional”, the third single from her second studio album Whitney.

The song was an instant hit and became her sixth consecutive number one record.  The hook of the song is a catchy yet effective line that tells us all that we need to know about relationships: “Ain't it shocking what love can do.”

In the book of Act’s chapter 16, Paul and Silas are in jail because they made some rich folks mad.  A demon processed woman with the ability to tell the future was owned by a rich mam who made a lot of money from her talent.  Paul recognizing the demonic source of her ability droved the bad spirit out of her much to the dismay of the rich man as he lost a revenue stream.

Paul and Silas appeared before the Roman officials.  In a sham trial, they were criticized for spreading the Gospel, crowds turned against them. They were severely beaten and thrown in jail.

In the dyer conditions of the jail, Paul and Silas continued to praise the Lord.

Placed far inside the jail bound with their feet locked between large blocks of wood. Paul and Silas praised the Lord, singing and calling on his name as the other prisoners herd the message of salvation.

Then around midnight, there was an earthquake so strong that it shook the foundation of the jail. All the doors of the jail opened, and the chains on all the prisoners fell off.  The jailer woke up and saw that the jail doors were open. He thought that the prisoners had already escaped, so he got his sword and was ready to kill himself. But Paul shouted, “Don’t hurt yourself! We are all here!”

The jailer told someone to bring a light. Then he ran inside and, shaking with fear, he fell down in front of Paul and Silas and said, what must I do to be saved?”

That night the jailer and his entire household came to Christ.   – Ain’t it shocking what love can do.
