It’s Tuesday, March 1, or Mardi Gras which is French for Fat Tuesday. It’s called Fat Tuesday because it is the last day of feasting before the Christian season of Lent.
For Christians Lent is a time of fasting so Mardi Gras Fat Tuesday if you will is a time of preparation for the fast, not necessarily by getting that last Chick-fil-A sandwich in but by asking God’s help for the temptation that is to come.
Despite reports to the contrary, the Devil is alive and well. The Devil is active on earth and in the lives of everyone, especially Christians.
Jesus after his baptism in the Jordan river was on a spiritual high he was led by the Holy Spirit to the wilderness where for forty days he was tempted by none other than the Devil.
During Lent, we will experience spiritual highs and we will be tempted. In reading Luke 4:1-13 we find the three ways that the Devil will tempt us. First is physical temptation, Jesus was hungry, and the Devil offered him bread, second is material temptation, the Devil offered Jesus all the possessions of the world, third and perhaps most deadly the Devil will tempt us by appealing to our vanity. The Devil questioned if Jesus was the son of God and challenged him to prove it.
Saints the stage has been set on this Fat Tuesday, we know how the Devil will tempt us and because we know, and God knows those temptations they will be defeated, and we will go from just having a Fat Tuesday to having a fatter life.
