26 While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.   Matthew 26:26-28

Jesus spent a lot of His time on earth eating and drinking.   It was during these times that discipleship, evangelism, and forgiveness took place.

During the Passover, the Jewish holiday commemorating the Hebrews’ liberation from Egyptian slavery, Jesus gathered his disciples for a meal.

It was a meal of discipleship as all who were gathered enjoyed the unleavened bread the wine and the hardy conversation.

It was a meal of evangelism as Jesus shared the bread and the wine.

And it was a meal of forgiveness for eating with Jesus was Judas, who would betray Jesus along with the other disciples all of whom will deny, flee, or run away from the savior of the world.

When we dine with Jesus discipleship, evangelism, and forgiveness are always on the menu.  And while I am confident that none of us will deny, flee, or run away from the savior of the world.

Our meal with Jesus, the communion that so many of us receive as an article of faith each month.  Can be just as unsatisfying as a cold burger and fries from a fast-food joint if we don’t use our discipleship to make other disciples.

If we are unwilling to evangelize telling everyone about the goodness of the Lord, and if we fail to forgive especially those who deny, flee, or run away from us particularly when we need them the most.

So, let’s enjoy a meal with Jesus and fill our belly with the satisfying spiritual food of discipleship, evangelism, and forgiveness.
