Watch out! Guard yourself against all kinds of greed. It is the command of Jesus’s and the main point of the parable of the Rich Fool from Luke 12:13-21.
Despite this command many people believe that Greed is Good. In the words Gordon Gekko a character in the 1987 movie Wall Street Many people believe that greed is good.
Many people believe that greed is right, many people believe that greed works that greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of what it is to be human.
But is it true is greed really good? – After all it was greed brought Stephen, to the Sanhedrin it was greed that brought slavery to American along with 400 years of racism and it was greed that brought Jesus to the cross.
However, the good news is when Jesus was brought to the cross greed died as a controlling force in our lives. On the cross we gained victory over greed on the cross we gained an opportunity for a life without greed on this earth and beyond.
So, the question will we heed the warning of Jesus to watch out for greed. For greed in all of its forms for money, for love, for power for sex is ramped everywhere, in our hearts, minds and even in our churches.
Watch out! Guard yourself against all kinds of greed.
