With great intention Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River specifically to be baptized by John The Baptist. However, when Jesus got there was a big problem John The Baptist, the most famous baptizer of all time did not want to baptize Jesus because he believed he was not worthy.
John told Jesus in Matthew 3:14 “This isn’t proper,” “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you.” Then Jesus said to John “Please do it for I must do all that is right.” So, then John baptized Jesus. Proving that John was worthy.
The baptism of Jesus by John The Baptist was not only the fulfillment of prophecy it also demonstrates that Jesus has a higher expectation of you. Jesus sees things in you that you don’t see. However, when you are led by faith and the Holy Spirit you can do great things.
On this Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend we celebrate a man and a movement ordained to show the United States that Jesus has higher expectations for African American. Those expectations are higher that to be a people contented to sit on the back on the bus of second-class citizenship.
Jesus has higher expectations of you. A higher expectation to be baptized in living your life with a longing inspired by Micah 6:8 to “Do Justice, Love Mercy, and Walk Humbly with Your God.”
Remember: Jesus Has A Higher Expectation For You.
