After Jesus rose from the dead, he spent forty or so days on earth, appearing to his disciples and others. In those appearances, Jesus taught the gospel preparing his disciples for the ministry that they would do after his accession into Heaven.
The Book of Acts’ account of Jesus' accession has the disciples are looking up as Jesus is ascending into Heaven. Then suddenly two angels in white robes appeared saying “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven?
At first thought, it might seem odd that the disciples are told to stop looking up toward heaven, after all, is not Heaven where our faith should be centered. However, what God is telling us through his angels is this, while Heaven is the prize our faith is practiced here on earth.
Today is primary election day in Georgia, it is an opportunity for us Heaven-bound disciples here on earth to practice our faith by taking part in the democratic process of electing good people to office.
Bravo if you voted early, however, if today is your day, I pray that you will go out and make your voice heard. Because when we do we are following God’s command to do more than look toward heaven as we practice our faith here on earth.
